FedEx Linehaul Solo Drivers are the backbone of the hub-and-spoke logistics network. Operating Class A tractor-trailers—frequently in "double" configurations—these drivers move critical freight between hubs, terminals, and sorting facilities. This role is highly sought after for its predictable nature and "no-touch" freight model.
Key Responsibilities & Logistics
- Routes & Scheduling: Drivers typically follow structured regional routes. Because these runs are scheduled and consistent, they offer a high level of work-life balance, often allowing for daily or frequent home time.
- Night Operations: To ensure the logistics network meets overnight delivery windows, most Linehaul driving occurs during nighttime hours. Precision and on-time performance are critical to maintaining the hub-to-hub schedule.
- Freight Handling: This is a "no-touch" freight position. Drivers are not responsible for loading or unloading cargo; instead, they focus on drop-and-hook operations, which involve the coupling and uncoupling of trailers at designated facilities.
- Equipment: Drivers generally operate modern, late-model daycabs, most of which are equipped with automatic transmissions and the latest safety technology.
Professional Requirements
- Licensing: A valid Class A CDL is mandatory.
- Endorsements: Drivers must typically hold a Doubles/Triples (T) endorsement.
- Experience: Most positions require 1–2 years of verifiable tractor-trailer experience within the last 3 years.
- Compliance: Strict adherence to DOT regulations, FMCSA safety standards, and speed-governed fleet policies is required.
